Roslyn Place We Once Live On

In Planning, I agree with Allan Jacobs though that we must embedded esthetical element in all planning. Thus it manifestation by urban design concept. Urban design in a relalistic action from planning. I said that, beause beside we make policy to management our program planning, the implementation should take action and creativity.

Planning must consist a Humanism element, not only fungtional but also esthetical. Human always tend to feel with their sense regarding a space or maybe environment. Its easy to say that human fell comfort and curiosity in a great place at least it must provide comfortable and softly nuance.

Like you see at picture above. There is beautiful place, handsome place, nice place, welcoming place, safe place, and the great place where you might to live. Yes indeed it’s a Roslyn Place in Pittsburg Pensylvania. Roslyn PlaceEllworth avenue, just east of Van Aiken Boulevard. It is easier to find it because the nuance quite different from other (Uniqe). is a neighborhood unit consit few a single family. It located near

Roslyn Place is one of conservation an preservation area since 1914. Roslyn Place is a small, and building and landscape have arranged so that there is enclosure a space. From Ellworth, as its start, pass the metal gate posts that you might or might not notice. To the four –two and one half story, re brick, wood trim, Pitched roofed town houses that end it.

Roslyn Place is about 250 feed or approximate 76 meters long. There are fourteen more dwellings in the other nine thighly grouped buildings that line the narrow street and sidewalk. Each dwelling has a small front yard. The street has been installed by wood block paving that can be slippery in winter. The buildings have a same height, and though that may look alike at the first glace. In fact there are have five architectural variation.

Narrowness, enclosure, and intimacy bring a felling of savery to Roslyn Place. There are no garage and the car have to park onthe street, on both sides, leaving only one narrow traffic lane in the center. When it is easy to see a people, when you almost can,t avoid it. It can be easy to know them. Here all of distance are short. It is only 45 feet or 13,7 meters from a house window or door to a house across the street. And from center of house street to each end is about 120 feet or 36,5 meters; these are distance that permit recognition of face.

In fact, now Roslyn place has changed remarkable little and the atmosphere is same nothing changed. Indeen the Roslyn Place is a Greeat Street We Once Iive On.

Making a Great Street

After a long day i seek a book regarding an Urban design and finally I get it.. this book discused about a great street and it complement. The book written by Allan Jajobs,mm I forget his background but certain he is an architect and city observer. Well the great street is a "best" street that provide all basic context of humanity (secure, safety, comfortable, amenities, and humilities for congregation of humankind without racial barier. Beside that the great streat dan indirectly established by history, aristocratic, local tone and so fort. Here I have some qualification that make our street could be a great street.
  • Attractions & Destinations. Having something to do gives people a reason to come to a place—and to return again and again. When there is nothing to do, a space will remain empty, which can lead to other problems. In planning attractions and destinations, it is important to consider a wide range of activities for: men and women; people of different ages; different times of day, week and year; and for people alone and in groups. Create an enticing path by linking together this variety of experiences.
  • Identity & Image. Whether a space has a good image and identity is key to its success. Creating a positive image requires keeping a place clean and well-maintained, as well as fostering a sense of identity. This identity can originate in showcasing local assets. Businesses, pedestrians, and driver will then elevate their behavior to this vision and sense of place.
  • Active Edge Uses. Buildings bases should be human-scaled and allow for interaction between indoors and out. Preferably, there are active ground floor uses that create valuable experiences along a street for both pedestrians and motorists. For instance, a row of shops along a street is more interesting and generally safer to walk by than a blank wall or empty lot. Sidewalk activity also serves to slow vehicular traffic. At the very minimum, the edge connection should be visual, allowing passers-by to enjoy the activity and aesthetics of the indoor space. These edge uses should be active year-round and unite both sides of the street.
  • Amenities. Successful streets provide amenities to support a variety of activities. These include attractive waste receptacles to maintain cleanliness, street lighting to enhance safety, bicycle racks, and both private and public seating options—the importance of giving people the choice to sit where they want is generally underestimated. Cluster street amenities to support their use.
  • Management. An active entity that manages the space is central to a street’s success. This requires not only keeping the space clean and safe, but also managing tenants and programming the space to generate daily activity. Events can run the gamut from small street performances to sidewalk sales to cultural, civic or seasonal celebrations.
  • Seasonal Strategies. In places without a strong management presence or variety of activities, it is often difficult to attract people year-round. Utilize seasonal strategies, like holiday markets, parades and recreational activities to activate the street during all times of the year. If a street offers a unique and attractive experience, weather is often less of a factor than people initially assume.
  • Diverse User Groups. As mentioned previously, it is essential to provide activities for different groups. Mixing people of different race, gender, age, and income level ensures that no one group dominates the space and makes others feel unwelcome and out of place.
  • Traffic, Transit & the Pedestrian. A successful street is easy to get to and get through; it is visible both from a distance and up close. Accessible spaces have high parking turnover and, ideally, are convenient to public transit and support walking and biking. Access and linkages to surrounding destinations must be a part of the planning process. Automobile traffic cannot dominate the space and preclude the comfort of other modes. This is generally accomplished by slowing speeds and sharing street space with a range of transportation options.
  • Blending of Uses and Modes. Ground floor uses and retail activities should spill out into the sidewalks and streets to blur the distinction between public and private space. Shared street space also communicates that no one mode of transportation dominates.
  • Protects Neighborhoods. Great streets support the context around them. There should be clear transitions from commercial streets to nearby residential neighborhoods, communicating a change in surroundings with a concomitant change in street character.

Great Street in Urban Live

In speaking of great streets, it just not say a street as a physical form using to movement. Street are more than public utilities. more than equivalent of water line , sewers, and electricity cables. On the street we meet together and all thing will occured

In exuberance, after afternoon on Stroget in Copenhagen, or in Ramblas Barelona, Monumen avenue in Richmond, and Orchad road in Australia. Peoples through it might exclaim" Oh that was a great street!. " Its a sense that a best streat called "great". Dictionary definitions such as notably large in size, huge
, aristocratic, or grand. Would be discarded that the great street not only refer a eminent, long continued, distiquished, modern and so fort. Most particularly, great street are those that are markedly superior in character and quality.
After surving the website and read some article, I add some definition that the great street also bearing the name of community in that place or epitomize the character of community or maybe the history of place.

The best known architect Dolf Schnebli wrote;

The great streets are in out mind. The street were i would..encounter you in discussion with Socrates, waiting for pallas Athena to show me the caffe in which could find Sartre discussing with Corbuzier, Mellviel having a beeer with Faulkner...

And he goes on:

A good urban street is always good in context. Its goodness can change if Hittler is in charge of the city. All Street all bad..to eat in a beautiful space is nice, but if the good is bad. I prefer good food to an agly place. I prefer good food in beatiful place. But bad service can destroy whole thing. Therefore the best good food, good space, good service, good company. We could go on..

Actualy i dont understand what was his wrote..! Like a Poet, every people have a sense to interpret this word..and I can catch his intended from this worl
Therefore the best good food, good space, good service, good company that its a steet.. a Great Street.
